Training On Foot

To all my biking, can't imagine running, friends - take that!

...okay, just trying to psych myself into justifying my craziness. I really hate running an out and back course so I decided to try a new route by my house. Yes, I'm home this week (thank God!) due to the short week and, I'm pretty sure, the cost of a plane ticket during a holiday week. So, I couldn't help wanting to ditch the laptop for a bit and enjoy the pure blue sky today.
My selected route takes you up the big hill by the lake and then out towards Yankee Rec. Area but then cuts south on a busier road with basically a strip of suicide grass on the side. Cars (I mean trucks, big trucks) are rare but when they do come they whip around the corners and don't move over. The route was actually a bad choice for two reasons - it was all up hill with curves and the other, I came pretty close to being motorcycle meat. Come on now, I emphasis with the need for 100 mpg but can ya just stay on the otherside of the white line, seriously! Ah well, I think I gave them a pretty good shock when they finally see me in the grass as they round the curve, and tentatively swerve, nearly losing it. Then, I came home to a house of lazy boys.

Why are you running, you ask? - more on that later. I did get out for my inaugural bike ride (yes, of the year) on Saturday morning with the Caledonia group. They were set on doing more mileage than I was game for - so Barry and I turned back early. I actually think I was bonking towards the end - pretty embarrassing. And, Monday, I finally cleaned off the Ripper-gone-singlespeed and did a nice ride from our house to Yankee, rode some singletrack and back. Felt good for the most part as I was still running my gearing from Iceman. But it bit me yesterday as my hamstrings were pretty sore. Jeez...stop rambling Bonnie, I must have missed blogging.

Most of the weekend was spent doing yardwork and planting all my good plant finds from the greenhouse sale, with a not very smart and brief trip up to Traverse City to attend a college roommate's baby shower. All and all, it was good.

Fade to Light

With much prodding from my fellow bloggers, I've decided to continue on (yes, with life too) despite my spring hiatus from most anything cycling related. I'm working on a new look so check back soon as well. Meanwhile, for a spring update...Checkout my web albums -
